Description
This fly whisk was designed and constructed by the Baule People, an agrarian culture identified within the larger, Akan ethnic group of the Republic of Ivory Coast. Baule specialists carve fly whisks prolifically, both for their own use and for trade to neighboring peoples. Baule chiefs and noted village leaders own multiple fly whisks. The whisk handle features four seated birds. The surface is decorated with extremely fine incising in geometric patterns, marked by a central raised band of carved, Baule faces.
