Description
This Mancala board was constructed by the Dogon People of the Republic of Mali. With its origins in East Africa, Mancala is one of the oldest board games in the world, dating to the 7th century, A.D. The term Mancala comes from Naqala, an Arabic word meaning “to move.” This game is played by moving game pieces, usually seeds or beans, into different bowls on the game board until all the pieces been captured. Mancala actually refers to a group of games, as more than 800 versions have been known to exist (Mancala World 2021).
