Antique, Garden Door with Geometric Forms (Zhejiang Province, PRC)

Antique, Garden Door with Geometric Forms (Zhejiang Province, PRC)

92 x 26.5 x 2.5 ″Hand crafted of Cunningham Wood (named for British botanist, Allan Cunningham),This antique screen originates from Zhejiang (Je-jong), a province in Eastern China that borders the East China Sea. Four paneled screens are a natural part of traditional, Chinese dwellings, serving to enclose the interior from the courtyard or to flexibly create various rooms within the home. The screens created privacy, shielded from wind, and blocked direct sunlight. They were commissioned by local, master carvers and are considered more valuable if they are attractive to the eye, both in proximity and from afar. The pinewood screen may be employed as doors to a closet, as a headboard, a wine cellar, a wall hanging, or simply to divide a room. The pine screen has an aged, silky finish, and its carved patterns, moreover, create stunning, rhythmic shadows while filtering directional light.
