Description
An original hand-carved wooden Prestigious chair from the Djimini & Baule People of the Ivory Coast. Traditionally reserved for chiefs or important elders, this chair has a typical design with a flat seat and a vertical back. The austere rigidity of the chair’s straight back is a sign of the new social standing for the newly promoted members. Their decorations however, adhere to traditional and local motifs from everyday life and history, religion and mythology, which often have important psychological and religious connotations.
