Description

This fascinating vessel is hand molded from terra-cotta clay by the Ifik People from the Cross River State, Nigeria. Employing coil method construction, the vessel is marked by three, large, unbeveled spouts on top, and zig-zagged striations that function both aesthetically and as a grip mechanism while pouring or drinking. This pattern is known as “twisted palm roulette,” and serves as a classic design technique among many African potters. This vessel is employed for consumption of local wine during various cultural enactments.
